I’m Jillian McManemin, a writer whose work spans art history, politics, memoir, and criticism.

I’m a contributing editor at BOMB Magazine. In 2020, I founded the Toppled Monuments Archive, documenting how monuments become sites of ongoing cultural transformation through defacement, intervention, and removal. I write essays and reviews for publications like Hyperallergic, The Brooklyn Rail, Texte zur Kunst, and Ursula. I have a background in multimedia and performance art.

My first book, Sculpture Kills, a hybrid of memoir and art history asks, What happens when art becomes lethal? Sculpture Kills is under consideration and I’m at work on my second book, A CALL TO ROT, a hybrid memoir about political utopias.

This newsletter is a space for notes, research, and essays. Expect meditations on sculpture, political violence, utopias, contested spaces, and the aesthetics of power, with moments of my life in Los Angeles.
